GPOTD: Soupy Sales

Hiatus today sort of, unless you count this.

Spent the early morning watching an interview with Larry Fine which led to Moe Howard which led to a series of Mike Douglas Shows with Moe, Mike and Soupy having pie fights and being silly.

All of these videos were not embeddable so I took that as a hint to take the day off.

The Geezer.

GPOTD: Smothers Brothers #4

Tom wins an Emmy for the work he did in 1969 and makes one HELL of a speech.

GPOTD: Smothers Brothers #3

GPOTD: Smothers Brothers #2

To be honest, in a historical context, Tom and Dick had an irreverence that didn't fit in well in the 50's. It was their folk music that fit in. Once the 60's came they fit perfectly with both the irreverence and the folk music.

Their show for its time was, in today's vernacular, win wrapped in awesome and then double wrapped in bacon.

GOPTD: Smothers Brothers #1

Tom was impressed by Burl Ives who had a radio show where Ives would play folk songs.

Tom learned the guitar by age nine and was then impressed by George Gobel. George didn't tell jokes. He got on stage with a guitar and made people laugh.

Tom realized before he left high school that he could make people laugh by doing things he wasn't supposed to in a manner that looked like he was trying to do what he was supposed to do.

Tom had a brother named Dick. Tom and Dick argued.

Tom was musical. Dick was not. Tom taught Dick how to play the bass.

Tom and Dick sang and played in bands and of course they argued. The band became a quartet. The quartet became a trio. The trio became The Smothers Brothers. The arguments became scripts and routines.

They gave the act 6 months to catch on. They are still at it over 40 years later.

Perhaps this cannot trump the last video but it pulls within sight of it.

GPOTD: Carrie Fisher

Quite possibly the only woman on the planet crazier than Bamford.

GPOTD: I <3 Maria Bamford #4

Blossom featuring Maria Bamford.

GPOTD: I <3 Maria Bamford #3

I think when browsing one day this is the video that made me a fan of Maria (and Blossom but that didn't come until later.)

GPOTD: I <3 Maria Bamford #2

Bamminating Robert undt Tomas.

GPOTD: I <3 Maria Bamford #1 -Language Warning-

'The Maria Bamford Show' is a 20 part train wreck that makes me roll my eyes and think of me and my family. It also makes me laugh uncontrollably. My favorite episodes are #10 and #20.

Here is #10, the only one that lives well on its own.

Even with the 'adult' language I am putting this one here without raising the adult content flag because in my opinion any word with malicious intent behind it is a 'dirty' word but swearing without intent of such is merely a choice of language.

I heard worse on the bus going to school at the age of 8 but some of the iconic swears are in here.

GPOTD: Tubular Bells

The tension and creepiness this piece evokes made the movie possible too.

GPOTD: The Exorcist

Some of the timing on William's hand gestures in this clip are as scary as his movies.

GPOTD: Addams Family Composer Vic Mizzy

Vic wrote the theme to the TV show 'The Addams Family', directed the opening titles, and majored in finger snapping in university.

New Home for Geezer Pick of the Day.

After annoying the hell out of about 170 people every day for about a year on Facebook with my "Geezer Pick of the Day" video selections from youtube I have decided that it will more appropriately fit to the 'blog format.

I usually post more than one video per day and have a few formats.

Typically I do a segue. From one word or thought to another.

Sometimes I just pick things I like and post.

Sometimes I get on movie trailer and commercial kicks.

Sometimes I will post oddities and see where it goes from there.

Enjoy it if you will. I certainly do.
